Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/4 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually mix in warm milk until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  3. Flatten cold butter between parchment sheets into a rectangle and chill.
  4. Roll the dough into a large rectangle, place chilled butter on one half, and fold over to encase it.
  5. Roll out and fold into thirds; repeat this process two more times for layering.
  6. Cut triangles from the dough and roll each triangle from base to tip to shape.
  7. Proof on lined trays until doubled in size (about 1 hour) then bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
